Because organizations use V2R to drive the execution of their strategy it is important to keep sensitive goals private. Organizations also have an individual tolerance for the amount of information that is shared between associates including performance ratings.
Each goal assigned in the V2R process must be assigned to one of the three levels of Goal Privacy: Private, Public or Visible
Private Goals
Private Goals like the name implies are private. A Private Goal can only be viewed by the associate the goal is assigned to, their Boss and any other Stakeholders that have been assigned to assess the associate's performance on that goal. No other associates will be able to see Private Goals or any of the information associated with the Private Goal.
Public Goals
Public Goals like the name implies are public. All users that have access to V2R can navigate through the organization and view other associate's Public Goals. This open book form of management helps all associates develop a better understanding of where and how they fit into the organization's overall strategic plan.
Public Goals promote associate level accountability by allowing peers to see in detail what each associate is doing to achieve their goals. The only thing other peers can't see on Public Goals are metric scores or Stakeholder ratings that have been completed. Most organizations select Public Goals as the default setting.
Visible Goals
Visible Goals are the same as Public Goals, except any prior metric scores or Stakeholder ratings can be seen by other associates in the organization.
The most advanced organizations select Visible Goals as the company default. They want the greatest amount of information sharing across the organization along with the highest level of associate accountability. Remember that "No Excuses" Strategy Execution is achieved through the combination of good communication and individual accountability.
